The DEA has announced an upcoming Manufacturer/Importer/Exporter Conference to be held in June 2013 at the National Harbor, Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. “The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum to present federal laws and regulations that affect the pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing, importing, and exporting industry and to discuss practices to prevent diversion while minimizing the impact on legitimate commerce. In addition, topics such as quotas, year-end reporting, ARCOS reporting, import/export permits and declarations will be discussed.” Unfortunately, outside legal counsel and consultants are not allowed to attend. More information can be found on the Office of Diversion Control’s (“OD”) website. Also, the DEA continues to hold Pharmacy Diversion Awareness Conferences throughout the United States. These are one-day conferences open to pharmacy personnel designed to assist pharmacy staff in identifying and preventing diversion activity. Check OD’s website for upcoming conference dates and locations.
